View Maestro Farkhad Khudyev’s bio here
Free tickets provided to youth, including 35 student musicians from the up and coming Youth Orchestra Salinas (YOSAL). This concert was an inspiration to both the YMMC orchestra youth musicians and its audience who heard and felt the grand new energy and passion for classical music Maestro Khudyev was able to convey to his students and the audience alike. The concert was hailed from critics all around and was a great accomplishment to the organization. Lyn Bronson writes in Peninsula Reviews “…a heartwarming and exciting event at Sunset Center on Sunday afternoon as Youth Music Monterey County (YMMC) hit one out of the ballpark while presenting the first concert of its 2012-2013 season. And, as a double header, YMMC also on this occasion introduced its new Music Director and Conductor, Farkhad Khudyev. Khudyev is also a fine violinist and appeared as the soloist during the concert performing Beethoven’s Romance In F major, Op. 50. His performance made a pleasing impression, as did the nice rapport he seemed to have with all the young orchestra players. It was a big step choosing a new Music Director, and it is obvious that the search committee has chosen well. I felt a great sense of pride after hearing this YMMC concert and we heard playing that was the equal of many community orchestras.” (abbreviated from Peninsula Reviews)

Khudyev Brothers Concert
“Eclectic Joy”
On Saturday, November 3rd 2012 Maestro Farkhad Khudyev presented a Masterclass and Chamber Recital his talented musician family including brothers Eldar Khudyev (violinist) & Emil Khudyev (clarinetist) and sister-in-law Nozomi Marusawa (pianist). The performance was well received, showcasing a variety of repertoire and styles, including a piece written and performed by Maestro Khudyev. About 75 people were in attendance, and reviews credited each musician as a standout in their own right. Pianist Marusawa has been invited by the Carmel Music Society to return in the near future for a solo concert.
The YMMC Chamber Players were in for a special treat of a master class led by the Khudyev family. All chamber groups had an opportunity to perform in the master class and receive musical feedback for improvement. The students and teachers found the afternoon rewarding and inspiring, and were observed by a small audience of invited guests of parents and Max and Mary Bragado from the Monterey Symphony. One chamber ensemble was featured as the concert opening group and performed a piece titled Concerto for four violins in G Major by Georg Philipp Telemann. The audience was excited to hear the Chamber Players earlier than usual in their concert season, and look forward to their upcoming events in the Spring 2013. YMMC Winter Set Auditions for New Members or to change orchestras
Wednesday, November 14th 2012
New musicians are encouraged to audition throughout the year. YMMC held a formal day for auditions for its winter session for new students or to change orchestras on November 14th at Monterey High School to accommodate the growing number of students who find out about the program after the school year has started, and other various reasons. Ten new musicians were accepted into the orchestra programs, and three students changed orchestras from Junior Youth to Honors. We are finding the Winter set of formal auditions necessary to formally accept new musicians into the program. Our next audition date will be Wednesday, February 20th from 4:00 pm 5:30 pm, by appointment at Monterey High School in the band room. Musicians can apply online and request an appointment here

YMMC Honors Orchestra side-by-side the Monterey Symphony
"Power"
On November 16th 17th & 18th 2012 the YMMC Honors Orchestra played side-by-side the Monterey Symphony at the Steinbeck Institute for the Arts in Salinas & the Sunset Center, Carmel “La Forza del Destino” (The Force of Destiny) overture. This piece was presented by twenty-nine student musicians from the YMMC Honors Orchestra. They were coached by the Monterey Symphony musicians in a retreat and three full rehearsals led by Maestro Max Bragado-Darman. They also had time to get each other through an informal dinner and playing an acquaintance game of 20 questions. This was the first time the students were presented at all three subscription concerts, including two at the Sunset Center. This increased the awareness of the collaboration and activities to more audience members and Symphony patrons, who enjoyed the packed stage and powerful music “full of vitality and its usual charm” as stated by Lyn Bronson in Peninsula Reviews. A complete review can be read online here.

YMMC Chamber Players Outreach Concerts
Currently in their third season, the YMMC Chamber Players are committed to providing a professional model of music making for motivated young musicians. Wishing to instill a sense of personal responsibility, community and appreciation for audiences and supporters, the Chamber Players are committed to bringing performances into the community, collaborating with other organizations and giving back. The Chamber Players perform each season in local retirement communities in order to bring music to people who may find it a challenge to attend a concert. The Chamber Players also travel to public schools in south Monterey County to YMMC'S South County Strings program, which provides in-school music instruction to underserved communities in south Monterey County.
